Sustainable Farming using Aeroponic Towers
Through our sustainable vertical farming method using aeroponic towers, Utopia Feels is able to grow various leafy greens, herbs, and vegetables without using chemical pesticides. Plants are much less accessible to pests since they are growing off the ground when cultivating on the towers.
Water and Space Savings
Aside from being able to grow crops without having to use chemical pesticides, our innovative farming method also saves 95% water and 90% space as compared to conventional soil-based farming. On average, a commercial aeroponic tower growing 52 plants only uses about 1 to 2 gallons, or approximately 4 to 7 liters per day, depending on crops and conditions, while only consuming less than 1 square meter of space.
The Mission of Utopia Feels
The goal of Utopia Feels is to provide nutrient-dense crops for the local residents of Coldstream Valley, near Kalamalka Lake. This is to help increase food security for their region while also minimizing food miles, which is traditionally associated with Canadian produce.
Thriving Crops at Utopia Feels
Some of the crops they grow at Utopia Feels are rainbow chard, different varieties of lettuce, flat leaf parsley, and white bok choy. These crops are thriving outdoors in Canada, even on rainy days. It is possible to grow plants on aeroponic towers outdoors even when it is raining, as the growing ports of the tower are designed to keep rain out. However, if a small amount of rainwater enters the growing ports, it will not have any significant impact on the nutrients in the reservoir at the base of the tower.
Adaptability of Aeroponic Towers to Various Climates
Aeroponic towers are also adaptable to various climates. They can be set up in any climate, except in freezing temperatures or extreme heat above 40°C. In such cases, we recommend growing indoors or in a climate-controlled greenhouse for optimal results.
