Fans play a crucial role in air circulation and recirculation inside a greenhouse. Whether discussing a fully climate-controlled greenhouse or just a hybrid greenhouse, having the right type of fans is essential.
When farming with aeroponic towers, as with all vertical farming technologies, the fan strategy is much more intricate and challenging than when setting up a conventional horizontal hydroponic system or growing crops in soil.
The different types of fans used in a commercial greenhouse are as follows:
Exhaust Fans:
These fans are placed at one end of the greenhouse to extract used air and bring in fresh air. They help control the heat and humidity inside the greenhouse.

Circulation Fans:
Also referred to as horizontal airflow (HAF) fans, these are necessary to create uniform air movement within the greenhouse. They regulate the greenhouse’s climate, reducing wet patches that can lead to disease and promoting uniform growth of the plants.

Cooling Fans:
These fans are tied to an evaporative cooling pad, drawing air through the moist pads before pulling it into the greenhouse. Essentially, they use the evaporation of water to draw cool air into the greenhouse. This method is most effective in dry climates, as the evaporation of the water can significantly cool the air.

Misting Fans:
These fans evaporate water into the air, cooling it in the process. They help maintain desired humidity levels for specific plants.

Oscillating Fans:
These fans move from side to side in a swinging motion, dispersing air evenly. This prevents any area from receiving too much of a concentrated blast of air, which could be harmful to delicate plants.
