Zucchini, also known as courgette, is a summer squash which belongs to the gourd family or Cucurbitaceae along with cucumbers, melons, and spaghetti squash. Aztecs and Mayans, who are natives in Mesoamerica, were the first to grow zucchini. It is one of the oldest cultivated crops in America, it is believed to have been domesticated from wild gourds in Central America about 5000 years ago.

Through our innovative vertical farming method using Tower Garden technology, we grow zucchini on aeroponic towers in less than one square meter of space without the use of soil, just water mixed with a 100% natural ionic mineral nutrient solution.

Zucchini comes in all various shapes, flavors, and textures. At Agrotonomy, in our Tower Farms, we grow different kinds of zucchini such as Classic Green or Noche zucchini, Yellow zucchini, Italian-striped zucchini, 8 ball zucchini, and a lot more.

Just like when cultivating other cucurbits and crops on aeroponic towers, we also use grow support cages made from galvanized steel to sustain the weight of zucchinis. Grow support cages are sold separately and can be used for peppers, zucchinis, eggplants, tomatoes, flowers, okra, kiwanos, melons, etc.

Zucchini can grow up to 91 cm (2 ft.) in length. However, it is recommended to be harvested before it becomes fully mature, typically measuring under 20 cm (8 in.). At this point, the zucchini is still tender and sweeter than the fully-mature ones.

There are a lot of ways on how to enjoy zucchini. It can be roasted, grilled, baked, or sauteed, etc. Aside from the fruit, zucchini flowers are also edible.

Whether raw or cooked, zucchini offers a similar nutrition profile. However, vitamins A and C are reduced when cooked.
